The case study in context

For those involved in sport and recreation, it is important that the value of sport and recreation can be described in both dollar and ‘social’ terms.

In 2010-11 Sport New Zealand conducted a study into the economic value of sport and recreation as well as a case study that brings to life the values that are also important to understand. These will build a greater appreciation of the contribution of sport and recreation contributes.

A prototype case study was completed of Northern United Rugby Football Club (Norths) that shows the value of the club to a wide range of stakeholders. The process for conducting the case study was also recorded and was developed into a paper-based toolkit resource. The toolkit was produced by Anne Dowden (Research New Zealand). The toolkit was further revised by Robyn Cockburn (Lumin). This online toolkit is based on the case study methods, templates, and examples produced in the orginal toolkit resource.
